Privacy Policy
Effective October 25, 2026. The short version: we collect what we need to run TechGripe, we don't sell your data, and we don't use ad trackers.
What we collect
| What | When | Public? |
|---|---|---|
| Email address | When you sign up | No, never shown |
| Name and profile photo from Google | If you sign in with Google | No, unless you choose to use them |
| Username | When you sign up | Yes |
| Gripes, comments, workarounds and photos | When you post them | Yes |
| Fix proof you send | When you tap Fixed? Send proof | No, only TechGripe sees it |
| Same gripe taps, follows and reports | When you use those buttons | Counts are public; who tapped is not |
| Email settings | When you set them | No |
| IP address, browser and device type, basic logs | When you visit | No |
We remove location data from photos when you upload them. Anything visible in the image itself, like a name on a screenshot, stays, so blur it first.
Cookies
We use cookies and similar browser storage only to keep you signed in, remember your settings like dark mode, and protect the site from bots. No advertising cookies, no tracking across other sites. To count visits we use Vercel Web Analytics, which doesn't use cookies and doesn't track you across sites. It records things like the page you viewed, the site that sent you, your country and your browser type, only as totals.
How we use it
- To run the site: show your posts with your username, keep counts, and remember your settings.
- To email you: sign-in links, and updates on gripes you follow if you've turned those on.
- To keep TechGripe safe: stop spam and bots, review reports, and enforce the Terms of Use.
- To fix problems and see which features people use, in totals rather than per person.
Who handles it
We don't sell your information or share it for advertising. These services handle it for us, only to run TechGripe:
| Service | What it does |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Database, sign-in and file storage |
| Vercel | Hosts the website and counts visits |
| Cloudflare | Domain, security and the bot check on forms |
| Resend | Sends sign-in and update emails |
| Sign-in, if you choose Continue with Google | |
| Purelymail | Our inbox, if you email us |
We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect people or the site. If TechGripe is ever sold or handed to someone else, your information goes with it, and we'll tell you first.
Your information is stored in the United States, and these services may process it in other countries.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while you have an account. When you delete your account, we delete your account and posts within 30 days, and backups clear within another 30. If we ban an account, we may keep its email address to stop it signing up again.
Your choices
- Turn off update emails in your settings or with the link in any update email.
- Ask for a copy of your information, a correction, or deletion of your account by emailing hello@techgripe.com from the address on your account.
- Where you live may give you more rights, for example in the EU, UK or California. We'll honor those requests for everyone, wherever you live.
Kids
TechGripe isn't for children under 13. If we learn that someone under 13 has an account, we'll delete it.
Security
We use reasonable safeguards, like encrypted connections and sign-in links instead of passwords. No site is perfectly secure, so we can't promise nothing will ever go wrong. If something does, we'll tell affected people.
Changes
We'll update the date at the top when this policy changes, and email you about big changes.
